Fishing in Golfito

    Golfito sportifhsing, Puerto Jimenez

Golfito, Puerto Jiminez and Zancudo Beach are on the Golfo Dulce, formed by the Osa Peninsula in the southern part of Costa Rica, near the Panamanian border. The facilities are far less developed than in the rest of the country, which makes it a great place to go. It has the only all-inclusive fishing lodges on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica, as well as small hotels and a small fleet of charter boats. Most of the boats are based in Golfito but will pick up clients in Puerto Jiminez, Cabo Matapalo, or Zancudo Beach.

The offshore fishing is world-class with sailfish, marlin, dorado, and tuna, with the peak season being from December into April. It is the best place in Costa Rica to target marlin at that time of year, unlike further north where sailfish are much more common. wahoo. Fishing in the Golfo Dulce for Roosterfish, Cubera Snapper, Jack Crevalle, Bluefin Trevally, Sierra Mackerel, Tripletail, and Grouper is excellent throughout the year with a lot less fishing pressure than other parts of the country.

In most cases, because there are only two flights per day, you will have to spend the first night in San Jose, but the first flight in the morning will get you there early enough to get in a full day’s fishing.

Los Suenos Fishing Charters can arrange as much or as little of your trip as you want, including the transportation from the states as well as the local flights. If you would like to see some of the countries, you can also go by road. For most of the trip, the road is excellent, with the last couple of miles more typical of the Costa Rican roads that many complain about. It will take about four hours and a private van is the best choice although you can also rent a car.
